Hormone Imbalance: The Missing Link To Weight Loss

Blog Image: Hormone Imbalance: The Missing Link To Weight Loss

At Metabolic Research Center we take a holistic approach to weight loss, tackling it from every angle. One of the aspects we consider is how hormones impact your ability to lose weight. This is why we offer hormone testing as an option with all Metabolic plans. Research shows that 96% of our clients have a hormone imbalance; making weight loss feel like an uphill battle. Our clients find that after testing their hormones, and working to gently correct imbalances, they feel better, their symptoms improve, and their weight management efforts often feel eaiser. Let's take a deeper look at hormones and how hormone testing can help uncover the missing link to your weight loss.

Estrogen dominance is a type of hormone imbalance that occurs when estrogen becomes too high relative to progesterone, the hormone that keeps estrogen in check. Hormone imbalance tends to be particularly symptomatic during perimenopause when cycles become irregular, at menopause when cycles end, and in women of all ages who are not ovulating. Estrogen dominance is worsened by high stress (bet you have no idea what that is!), poor diet and exercise, synthetic hormone use or overexposure to toxins in our foods and environment.

Undetected estrogen dominance makes it easier to gain weight year after year and difficult to lose it. Ugh, who needs that! When we do lose weight we often gain it back, or find it hard to shed that last 10 pounds. Many of us with hormone imbalances struggle with food cravings, unrelenting hunger, and strong impulses to eat when we aren't physically hungry. The underlying culprit behind all this can be an undetected hormone imbalance of one or more hormones. Scientific studies now link estrogen dominance to an array of troublesome symptoms including unwanted weight gain, food cravings, obesity, and more.

Symptoms of estrogen dominance may include:

  • Weight gain/difficulty losing weight
  • Abdominal (belly) fat
  • Heavy/irregular periods
  • Hot flashes/night sweats
  • Mood swings/PMS
  • Low libido

Women of all ages may benefit from balanced hormones. Using hormone test results as a guide, MRC consultants can recommend supplements, diet, and an exercise regime to help rebalance your hormones.

For a complete hormonal picture we test all of the following hormones together:

  • Estradiol (E2) estrogen: high levels = estrogen dominance, which can block thyroid function and lower metabolism rates
  • Progesterone (Pg): keeps estrogen levels balanced; a deficiency leads to buildup and estrogen dominance
  • Testosterone (T): builds bone and muscle; an imbalance leads to loss of lean muscle mass, which is then replaced by fat
  • DHEAS (Ds): a deficiency is linked to overall hormonal imbalance, anxiety, low energy and abdominal fat
  • Cortisol (C): high cortisol spikes food cravings, sleep disturbances, constant hunger or "never feeling full"

At Metabolic Research Center, we know that hidden hormone imbalance could be the missing link to successful, long-term weight management. That's why we offer Hormone Testing to help detect and correct this silent sabotage and reboot your efforts. The Metabolic approach not only helps balance your hormones but may relieve unwanted symptoms and restores your energy and stamina.
